It used to be said:

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach a man to fish and you feed him for life.

Once upon a time, not so long ago, gay men would happily support a wife and somebody else's children and with no DNA testing nobody was the wiser.

Somebody said that the whole point of the Internet is that I can put a file on the web and anybody in the world can have it but I still have it.

There's a glitch or two in the genetic mechanism right now.

My genes are no use to me if they are in my sperm. They are only of use to a woman. However, society says that although I can produce millions of copies of my genes and spread them around the world if Jane makes use of a copy thenceforth no other woman in the world can have a copy unless Jane dies first.

Why is this?

This is because the structure of our society is that men and not women take financial responsibility for children.

The UK has had half a century of the Welfare State. Few people are saying that the economy is being strangled by overall levels of taxation although they may find the distribution of the tax burden - Council Tax,. Road Fuel Tax - a little unfair at times. So why, in the one specific - the Child Support Agency - this major attempt to roll back the Welfare State?
