There is then this attempt to make comments about Redcar which have a broader application.
So, traffic calming.
Redcar does not have a shopping Mall. When Morrisons bought Safeway it seemed to me like an opportunity for Safeway to be re branded and Morrisons and Morrisons to be converted into a Shopping Mall. Still, I ain't got no money - to pay for such things.
However, I do have opinions about traffic in Redcar. I think that funneling traffic onto two level crossings and away from two bridges is more than a bit odd - especially when the council has given planning permission for a new shop on West Dyke Road which will prevent the construction of a third bridge.
The main thing though is that when Morrisons were designing the new shopping development they planned to demolish the Cancer Research shop between the police station and the pedestrianised precinct so that the buses could stop outside Morrisons store instead of running without stopping along the Esplanade.
It didn't happen. Perhaps it didn't happen because I suggested demolishing all the shops - about five - between the police station and the precinct and building a bus station in their place.
Another thing I have suggested is that the council should allow the owners of the shops fronting onto the precinct to encroach - move the building line forwards - in return for demolishing parts of their rear premises so that delivery routes can be constructed removing the need for vans to pick up and drop off by driving on the precinct.
People are used to Pedestrianised Malls and they don't expect traffic on pedestrianised precincts.
